Description

Delve into the millennia-old history of ancient Egypt with this sumptuous poster illustrated by Lotza, which highlights the impressive portrait of the pharaonic queen Hatshepsut. A rare and emblematic figure of Egyptian royalty, Hatshepsut reigned with power and wisdom between 1479 and 1458 BC, at a time when power was almost exclusively male. Her reign is recognized for its remarkable achievements, which left a lasting mark on the history of ancient Egypt.

Hatshepsut initiated vast architectural projects, beginning with her spectacular mortuary temple at Deir el-Bahari, a masterpiece of engineering and aesthetics that still testifies to her influence and taste for innovation. During her reign, numerous palaces and monuments were built, symbols of renewed prosperity and stable power. Furthermore, she led several successful trade expeditions, notably to the Land of Punt, which enriched the kingdom with rare and precious resources and consolidated its international reputation.

A fascinating aspect of Hatshepsut's depiction is her unique iconography: often depicted with a false beard and the masculine royal headdress, she appropriated traditional symbols of pharaonic power to assert her authority in a patriarchal society. This artistic choice highlights both her determination and her audacity, breaking the codes of her time to establish herself as the undisputed sovereign. This duality between femininity and masculine power makes her portrait particularly captivating and unique in Egyptian art.

This poster by Lotza is much more than a simple illustration: it's a vibrant tribute to a visionary queen, an invitation to explore the fascinating world of ancient Egypt through the inspiring story of Hatshepsut. Whether you're passionate about archaeology, the history of civilizations, or ancient art, this work offers an immersive dive into an era where women shone despite social constraints. And if you're already familiar with Nefertiti or Cleopatra, let yourself be surprised by the equally extraordinary journey of this extraordinary sovereign.

Hi, I'm Lotza!

The illustrator

Hi, I'm Lisa and I illustrate all the posters you can find in this online store.

I draw the posters on Illustrator using a pen, a vector drawing tool.
My illustrations are not transformed photos, called "vectorized" in the jargon. I choose my destinations myself; I am currently working on my Tour de France.

To create an illustration, I often use photos from my travels or royalty-free photos for commercial use in order to remain faithful to reality and I take the liberty of modifying the design and layout.

I also base my work on my drawings, which I scan and redraw on Illustrator; this is especially the case for my portraits of women.
