Description

The eternal debate finally comes to an end... or almost. With this original illustration by Lotza , a whole part of French culinary identity is celebrated—and gently shaken up! Behind this playful and colorful graphic scene lies a nod to France's tastiest linguistic quarrel: should we say pain au chocolat or chocolatine ?

Beyond the indulgence, a history lesson. Lotza doesn't just illustrate a beloved Viennese pastry. She sets the record straight by drawing on the research of a Toulouse baker-historian with a passion for bakery etymology. He tells us that the famous chocolate Viennese pastry traveled from 19th-century Austria, brought back by a certain August Zang. Both the croissant and the pain au chocolat, originally called schokoladeen croissant , have thus crossed borders, languages, and accents.

The word "chocolatine"? It is said to have come from a mixture of Austrian and Parisian accents, gradually transforming the original word into this charming and regional appellation that continues to be debated, particularly between the southwest and the rest of France.

A work combining humor, tradition, and popular culture. The poster subtly depicts the linguistic dilemma while paying homage to the richness of France's culinary heritage. It will make connoisseurs smile, delight pastry lovers, and appeal to those who love unusual historical details.

The namechocolate croissantis said to have been born from the linguistic evolution between Austrian accents and Parisian customs. Result: a beloved pastry, but two names that (gently) divide the country!

Hi, I'm Lotza!

The illustrator

Hi, I'm Lisa and I illustrate all the posters you can find in this online store.

I draw the posters on Illustrator using a pen, a vector drawing tool.
My illustrations are not transformed photos, called "vectorized" in the jargon. I choose my destinations myself; I am currently working on my Tour de France.

To create an illustration, I often use photos from my travels or royalty-free photos for commercial use in order to remain faithful to reality and I take the liberty of modifying the design and layout.

I also base my work on my drawings, which I scan and redraw on Illustrator; this is especially the case for my portraits of women.
