Description

The poster illustrated by Lotza represents Strasbourg , a city in northeastern France, famous for its magnificent Alsatian architecture and its historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Strasbourg is a city with a long and rich history. It was founded by the Romans over 2,000 years ago and was the capital of Alsace for centuries. The city is also known for its Gothic cathedral, which was built in the 12th century and is considered one of the most beautiful in the world.

Strasbourg has also been the scene of many historical events, such as the signing of the Treaty of Westphalia in 1648, which ended the Thirty Years' War, and the creation of the Council of Europe in 1949.

Today, Strasbourg is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city with strong French and German influences. It is also the seat of the European Parliament and home to many other important European organizations. This original illustrated poster by Lotza pays vibrant homage to the city of Strasbourg, the capital of Alsace and an architectural gem in northeastern France. Accurately rendered in a unique graphic style, the artwork captures the beauty and authentic character of this iconic city, blending its medieval heritage, Franco-German cultural influences, and European institutions.

At the heart of the illustration stands the majestic Notre-Dame Cathedral of Strasbourg, a masterpiece of Gothic art, whose slender spire rises to 142 meters. Built between the 12th and 15th centuries, it was for a long time the tallest building in the Christian world. Its sculpted façade and astronomical clock make it one of the most impressive monuments in Europe. Around it stretches the Grande Île, the historic center of the city, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988. This district, a veritable labyrinth of cobbled streets and typical half-timbered houses, perfectly illustrates the charm of Alsatian architecture.

Founded by the Romans as Argentoratum, Strasbourg has over 2,000 years of history. A free city of the Holy Roman Empire, then French, then German, and French again, it embodies a bridge between two cultures, a geographical and historical position that has shaped its unique identity. The city was also a center of the Protestant Reformation and played a key role in the development of printing in Europe.

Strasbourg is also a symbol of European reconciliation. After the ravages of two world wars, in 1949 it became the seat of the Council of Europe, then of the European Parliament and the European Court of Human Rights, thus affirming its vocation as the institutional capital of Europe.

But Strasbourg isn't just about its history. It's also a lively and welcoming city, known for its festive atmosphere, especially during its famous Christmas market, the oldest in France, which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. When it comes to gastronomy, the city delights with its regional specialties such as sauerkraut, tarte flambée (flammekueche), baeckeoffe, and kougelhopfs. All of this is ideally accompanied by a glass of Alsace white wine: Riesling, Gewurztraminer, or Pinot Gris.

With its canals, flower-bedecked bridges, prestigious institutions, and unique atmosphere, Strasbourg is a city of history, culture, and the future. This Lotza poster perfectly captures this duality: between tradition and modernity, between France and Germany, between heritage and openness to the world.

Perfect for decorating an interior with elegance, this graphic creation is much more than a simple decorative object: it is an invitation to travel, to remember and to love this European city at the beating heart of Alsace.

Hi, I'm Lotza.

The illustrator

Hi, I'm Lisa and I illustrate all the posters you can find in this online store.

I draw the posters on Illustrator using a pen, a vector drawing tool.
My illustrations are not transformed photos, called "vectorized" in the jargon. I choose my destinations myself; I am currently working on my Tour de France.

To create an illustration, I often use photos from my travels or royalty-free photos for commercial use in order to remain faithful to reality and I take the liberty of modifying the design and layout.

I also base my work on my drawings, which I scan and redraw on Illustrator; this is especially the case for my portraits of women.
