Description

Badminton is an indoor racquet sport in which two players (singles) or two pairs (doubles) compete by hitting a shuttlecock over a net. The objective of the game is to knock the shuttlecock into the opponent's court while preventing it from hitting the ground in one's own court. Badminton's origins date back to ancient India, where the game was called "Poona." Players used wooden rackets and a feather ball. The game became popular in England in the late 19th century, where it was played in gardens and parks. There, a feather shuttlecock began to be used, as it was lighter and easier to handle than a ball.

In 1873, the Duke of Beaufort introduced the game to his estate at Badminton House in Gloucestershire, England, where it was played in a practice hall converted into a badminton court. This is where the name badminton comes from. The sport quickly spread among British aristocratic circles before becoming popular with the general public. The first national championship was held in 1899 in England, and badminton became an Olympic sport in 1992 in Barcelona.

Today, badminton is played worldwide, both recreationally and competitively, and has a large following thanks to its easy accessibility and numerous health benefits.

Dynamic, precise and spectacular, badminton is much more than just a racket game: it is a complete sport, both strategic and physical, which attracts millions of players around the world. This artwork by Lotza vividly illustrates the intensity and elegance of badminton, capturing the rapid movement of the shuttlecock and the concentration of players on a competition court.

Born in India under the name of "Poona", this racket sport found its name and its notoriety in England, when the Duke of Beaufort introduced it to his guests in his estate inBadminton House, in 1873. This game, initially aristocratic, quickly became popular and became a sporting discipline in its own right, structured and codified from the end of the 19th century.

With its entry into theOlympic GamesIn 1992, at the Barcelona Games, badminton gained international recognition, establishing itself as a demanding sport, combining agility, coordination, endurance and tactics. Whether insimple, indoubleor inmixed doubles, rallies can reach impressive speeds, sometimes exceeding 400 km/h, making it one of the fastest racket sports in the world.

This work pays homage to the energy of the game, but also to its origins and evolution. It features the sport's iconic symbols: the stretched net, modern rackets, and the iconic shuttlecock with delicate feathers, all in a stylized and dynamic graphic setting.

Ideal for sports enthusiasts, design lovers or clubs looking to decorate their spaces, this badminton poster combinesaesthetics, culture and passionIt embodies the strong values of this sport: respect, effort, and the balance between finesse and power. Hi, I'm Lotza.

The illustrator

Hi, I'm Lisa and I illustrate all the posters you can find in this online store.

I draw the posters on Illustrator using a pen, a vector drawing tool.
My illustrations are not transformed photos, called "vectorized" in the jargon. I choose my destinations myself; I am currently working on my Tour de France.

To create an illustration, I often use photos from my travels or royalty-free photos for commercial use in order to remain faithful to reality and I take the liberty of modifying the design and layout.

I also base my work on my drawings, which I scan and redraw on Illustrator; this is especially the case for my portraits of women.
